Sat 25th Feb
Very hot sunny day - 39* on K's watch and still 35* at 7pm. Had a liesurely start then caught a tram into the city for some last minute souvenir shopping (including a wombat, as we still haven't seen one!) and late breakfast - sat in an outdoor cafe on Federation Square - won't be eating breakfast outside next Saturday!
Came back to Medina and then walked round to Ste's house and had a chat with him there before coming back to the 'Two Doors Down'. Ste joined us later and we put the world to rights before going for tea at a quiet local bar. Suddenly the music volume was turned up to very loud, security (a very large security) was on the door and several big groups of young, very well dressed young people arrived wearing wrist bands and badges - think they were hen nights/ buck's nights etc. We left soon after - quiet evening in with Ste.

Another sunny day and another leisurely start. After breakfast with Ste at 2 Doors Down, we had vouchers given to us for the original room mix up, wecaught the tram and train to MCG and took the tour which lasted over an hour and was very interesting. It was funny because there was a local final being played ( guide said they must know 'someone') and Bell was playing so we got pictures of the scoreboard showing Bell playing at MCG (in his dreams!). After the tour we went into the National Museum of Sport downstairs where K and S had great fun in the interactive area - kicking rugby balls to score goals, simulated archery, simulated cycle race etc.
Back to the apartment to watch some cricket on TV - yes Ste is still Ste! Went to a restaurant with very loud live musiceven though for much of the time there was only us in, for a very nice meal. K&S wanted to share a bottle of wine - very classy wine list - many over $100 ranging to several over $350. Fortunately there was one priced at $45 for cheapskates(?)!
More drinks with Ste at the Medina then took the chance to sit on the balcony in the warm night air as lightening began to flash.

Last day! Our flight isn't until 11.10pm though, so we have booked an extra night so we don't have to worry about leaving the room and storing luggage. Etihad are picking us up at 9pm - a bit late to our mind - 2 hours before the flight leaves and at least a 30min drive to the airport but they assure us that 9.30pm would be OK so we have an extra 30mins! Apparently checkin only closes 40 min before flight for Business and 1st class - hope security don't cause problems!
We had planned to walk down to St Kilda beach this morning but just to remind us of home, it was raining so change of plan. Packed our cases, weighing and adjusting - got the suitcases down to a total of 59.5kg so just within limit! By the afternoon the weather had improved so we walked down to the beach and along the esplanade for a bit - damp but still very warm.
Ste came straight from work and we went for a quick tea - Ste did his usual 'have to go for a lie down' as soon as he'd finished eating so left us to finish up (and pay). Didn't have long before pick up ........ so Goodbye Ste! Perhaps see him in summer or Christmas? Love you, Ste ! xxxx
Onto the airplane, glass of champagne then dinner before lying down to sleep. Good flight.
Tues 28th Feb
Stopped at Abu Dhabi with a 3-4 hour wait so went in the lounge. Had a shower so felt fresher ready for the last leg of our journey. Shared the cabin with 6 of the England cricket team - I don 't know their names but K does! Another good flight and chauffeur waiting so overall a good journey.
Arrived home to find that the angel had been busy again - a welcome home pack of milk, bacon, eggs etc together with a lovely bunch of roses waiting for us. Thank you again, guys.xxxxx
Silghtly less welcome were a couple of the many letters we needed to sort through - a bill from Avis for fuel that we thought we had paid for and a speeding fine from Melbourne Police for Kevin - doing 68km/h in a 60 zone in the Yarra Valley - Oops! Hope there aren't any more to come!
What a fantastic holiday!!!
